Pipit Loungwear Set
My friend gave me a King sized cotton IKEA duvet cover that she was getting rid of since her dog had ripped it up (digging a little comfy hole for himself to lie in on the bed) and I was more than happy to take it! It's already super soft and comfortable. I wasn't sure what I wanted to make with it but since it was already bedding in it's former life, I thought pajamas would be a great choice.
The neckline facing of the top is a bit floppy. I opted not to use interfacing for the button hole placket or the facing, but I think next time I would. It wasn't written in the pattern, but I overstitched the facing down to make a bit less floppy. |
I had been eyeing the Pipit Loungwear Set from Common Stitch for some time but didn't dive in because of my aversion to buttonholes. Since I've been on a button down top sewing rampage lately, I felt ready!! I have my 1-step button hole foot to thank for this and my friend Mollie who gently reminded me that it's fine to sew buttonholes and I can do it!! She was right.
Overall,
it took about two dedicated chunks to work on this set. About 4-6 hours
total? It felt really quick! I was honestly surprised how quickly it
went. I found this YouTube video
of a woman sewing two sets (also from bedding) super helpful. God bless
the people who make sewalong videos talking through the process of
patterns. It helps me SO much!
I tackled the shorts first, which were super quick to make. I remember sewing pajama pants in middle school in my first home ec class but it's been a long time since I've sewn something like this. It was really easy! They instruct you to put in the elastic in an interesting way that I hadn't tried before - sewing the waistband elastic into a loop and then stitching it to the top of the shorts and then rolling it inward and stitching it down. It leaves a raw edge on the inside of the shorts, which is really not a big deal since it's just pajamas, but I've had edge finishing drilled into me by years of sewing instructors so I would probably just do it my way next time.

I love the set overall, it's so cute and so comfortable! I have been wearing this set to bed all the time. They are the perfect summer pajamas. I highly recommend this pattern! I still have another full piece of the duvet cover to use up. I think I might make another Antoinette shirt out of it.
