Weekly WIP no 07

This past week I was really dabbling in a number of projects and really feeling like I'm in my zone! Here's what I have been working on:

I overdyed my indigo check out balaclava with marigold to make it green. I knit this balaclava as a gift for my friend Mollie who has been wanting one for ages and I surprised her for her birthday. I used recycled thrift store sweater wool from ages ago that I had dyed indigo. When it was all knit up, I didn't love the shade of blue, so last week I put it in a marigold dye bath at my studio and it became a lovely variegated green color. Much better! She loved it :)

I sewed this wrap skirt last March and never felt like it laid properly. Also, the straps were comically long (I think I need to trim them even more honestly). I used this tutorial from The Essentials Club. After sewing a peppermint wrap skirt a few weeks ago, I realized the thing that was missing was a buttonhole to thread the skirt tie through to make it more secure. So the other day I added a buttonhole and now I think I will actually wear it! It's a big improvement and I feel like it's a lot more secure.

I bisque fired these two mugs at the pottery studio and will be working on glazing them later today. I think I want to paint some stripes on the textured mug and a plaid pattern on the more basic shaped one. I love playing around with glazes! It's always so hard for me to decide what I want to use because there are so many different options at my studio!! I trimmed and added handles to two other little mugs. I'll probably have those ready to glaze at open studio today as well. This was my first time experimenting with a swirly handle and it was really fun. I'm excited to see how it worked out after firing.

I've been working on putting together a quilt kit of naturally dyed linen scraps and practicing some different traditional quilt patches to show as examples. It's really fun! I have never made a full size quilt. It's definitely fun to see how little squares and triangles can make SO many different patterns, but it's also a lot more finicky than I'd prefer with matching everything up and calculating so exactly.

I spent all day on Friday sewing a pair of Simone Overalls! It was really fun. All I need to do now is sew the pockets on and hem them. I can't wait to get a better photo today.
